The Disaster & Energy Information Center is an online library that enables key stakeholders to easily find information on clean energy-related topics. It’s populated with disaster recovery resources created by federal agencies. We utilized a user-centered design process to understand the target audience and how they would use the site. This included user interviews, the development of personas and scenarios, and several rounds of usability testing. We did both desktop and mobile usability testing since we built the site responsively and needed to see how users—both on site at the scene of a natural disaster, and in their offices—would access the resources.
